Jack M. Adkins Jack M. Adkins, 72, of Georgetown, passed away May 7, 2009 in a local Austin hospital. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, May 11, 2009 in Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown. Dr. Kent D. Marrs will officiate at the funeral service on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Jack was born October 6, 1936 to Milburn Jasper and Ima Veva (Houser) Adkins in Waller. Shortly after that the family moved to McDade where he grew up. Jack graduated from ElginHigh School. He then went off to college in Lubbock, where he put himself through school by working as a horse trainer. Ranching and horses became his life's passion at an early age and followed him through life. After graduating from Texas Tech, Jack went on to attend UT's School of Pharmacology to become a Pharmacist. He moved to Georgetown in 1969 and went to work at Gus's Pharmacy. In 1972 Jack partnered with Gus Steenken and Gene Jacob to form Centex Pharmacies. The group has operated successful pharmacies in Georgetown, Leander, Temple, CedarPark and Bastrop. He was still active in caring for his customers when his health failed him. Jack was an active member of St. John's UnitedMethodistChurch in Georgetown. Jack is preceded in death by his father; his first wife, Patricia; and an infant daughter. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Carolyn of Georgetown; mother, Ima Veva Dungan of Georgetown; sister, Florence and husband Tony Jorgenson of Hunt; step-son, Dennis and wife JoAnn Brabandt of Georgetown; nephew, Eric Jorgenson of Austin; numerous cousins, many friends and customers. Jack felt especially close to his extended family of employees at Centex Pharmacies. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the care and devotion given to Jack and themselves by the nurses, doctors, and staff of the Cardiac Care Unit at the Austin Heart Institute.
