James Edward Naumann
James Naumann was a kind man who loved to help people. He was born on October 23, 1936 in Smithville, Texas, an only child, to Chester and Iva Naumann. James attended Smithville schools and was a celebrated track athlete. He attended Texas A&M University
and Southwest Texas State University, where he ran track at both schools. James competed as a sprinter in the nationally famous Texas Relays twice. While at Texas A&M, he was also a member of the Corps of Cadets. James served his country well as a member of the US Army. A dedicated soldier, he was also a member of the US Army Reserves, and later, the Smithville Honor Guard. In his professional life, James worked for such companies as the Lower Colorado River Authority and E.O. Sharp Butane. He returned to Smithville in 1973 and remained there until his death. In 1978 he married Peggy Barnett and had a wonderful 21 year marriage, until her death in 1999. James enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and was passionate about Texas A&M football. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Peggy. He is survived by his son Jimmie Naumann, daughter in law Leila Naumann, grandson Jamie Naumann, and step-daughter Nicolette Meek-Maize. The family would like to thank AseraCare Hospice and their phenomenal staff. A visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday, February 12, 2012 at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas. Graveside services will be at 1:00pm Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas.
