Johnnie A. Beasley Sr.

Johnnie A. Beasley Sr. Johnnie A. Beasley Sr., 76, passed peacefully into the next life on May 12, 2013, following a long, brave fight against cancer. He was born on November 17, 1936, in Baxley, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Sue; his parents, Odis Phoye Beasley and Sallie Mae Thomas Beasley, his brother, James Earl Beasley, and his sister, Betty Jean Beasley. Johnnie is survived by his sons, John Beasley, Jr. and partner Jeff Brown, Robert C. Beasley and wife Lisa, Richard B. Beasley; daughter, Kristy Harrell and husband Dustin, his sister, Eloise Beasley Taylor. He leaves behind five grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, a close extended family, and many friends. Johnnie served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring to Austin with his family in 1974. Johnnie loved to be outdoors and loved to travel. After his military service, Johnnie continued traveling, driving "big rigs" cross-country for many years before joining the U. S. Postal Service. He retired from the postal service in 2000, and enjoyed his second retirement traveling with his wife Mary, exploring new destinations and visiting family and friends across the country. Affectionately known as "Papa", he will be remembered as a hard-working, wise, caring and giving man, with a beautiful smile and a sharp, quick sense of humor. Papa was the cornerstone of the family, and his passing has created a void in the lives of those who love him that will never be filled. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas 78704. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, May 17, 2013 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks, 14501 Interstate 35, Pflugerville, TX. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Hospice Compasses for all of the guidance, care and support provided to the family during this difficult time.
