GOODELL, Karen Marie
Karen Marie Goodell was born in Beaumont, Texas on September 4, 1949, to Bobbie and Albert Goodell. Her parents predecease her, as do her grandparents, Margery and Harry Keenan, Jake and Dell Goodell, as well as her namesake, Marie Harris Goodell, and her most beloved friend, Jimmy Payne.
She is survived by her sister, Deborah Goodell Polan (Kraege), her nephews Chance, Walker, and Parker (Mary) and great nephew Henry "Hap" Polan, a number of cousins, and special people who were family members "by choice." She also leaves her close friends in Austin and across the country and the Atlantic Ocean who, but for technology, she would never have had the opportunity to meet.
During her early years, Karen spent many joyful summers with beloved cousins in Pensacola, Florida. The traveling adventures shared with the far-flung friends she made the last 15 years of her life also brought her great happiness and wonderful memories.
Karen was an artist, a photographer, a voracious reader and she loved the local Austin music scene. Upon first moving to Austin in the 1980s, she was very involved in hot-air ballooning and relished her association with and the friendships made through the Austin Aeronauts. Over the years, she spent many hours listening to local Austin musicians, and nothing filled her soul like their poetry and song.
Karen had a kind and generous spirit. She loved her family and friends passionately and thought more about the welfare of others than herself.
Her sudden passing has left a hole in the lives of those who knew and loved her. A celebration of her life will be held on April 5, 2014 at 10:30 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3208 Exposition Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78703.
