L. W. "Sonny" Stolz, Jr. L. W. "Sonny" Stolz, Jr. , 88, of La Grange, Texas, died peacefully at his home in La Grange, Texas on Monday, April 15, 2013. Sonny was born in Beaumont, Texas on April 10, 1925 to Lorenz W. Stolz, Sr. and Agnes Frede Stolz. He attended La Grange High School, Texas A&M University and graduated in 1950 from the University of Texas. Sonny served in the United States Coast Guard from 1943 - 1946. He pursued a career as a Landman for Humble Oil Company from 1952 - 1957 when he moved back to La Grange and took over the family business, L. W. Stolz Memorials. As a business and civic leader, Sonny served as a director of the La Grange State Bank and the South Central Savings & Loan at Brenham. He served as President of the La Grange Chamber of Commerce, elected to the La Grange City Council in 1968, and served three terms as Mayor from 1969 - 1977. He also served on the Fayette County Hospital Advisory Board and La Grange Bi-Centennial Committee. He was a member of the South Texas Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Jaycees, Arabia Temple Shriner, Mason at the AF&AM LaFayette Masonic Lodge #34, and was one of the thirty original members of the Fayette Heritage Museum's Board of Trustees. He is survived by his sister, Leola Stolz Carr and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marion Stolz Redman. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home, 208 W. Pearl St., La Grange, Texas. Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 205 S. Franklin, La Grange, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19 2013. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 368, La Grange, TX 78945; St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 2450 River Oaks Blvd., Houston, TX 77019; La Grange Volunteer Fire Department, 244 N. Franklin, La Grange, TX 78945; or to a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home 208 W. Pearl, La Grange, Texas.
