Mary Frances Murray Haas Mary Frances Murray Haas, 93, of Bartlesville, OK, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013, in Austin, TX. Mary Frances was born in Bartlesville, OK of James Robertus Murray and Cleo Oxendine Murray on December 21, 1919. Her brother, James Robertus Murray, Jr., and stepbrother, Charles Johnstone, preceded her in death. Mary Frances grew up in Bartlesville, graduated from College High School, and attended a year of junior college before graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Journalism. While in school, she was the society editor of the Bartlesville Morning Examiner and belonged to Girl Reserves, Girl Scouts, Rainbow Girls, and a drill squad. She was employed in the research personnel department of Phillips Petroleum Company. She married Gilbert G. Haas of Rolla, MO, on her birthday, December 21, 1946. The family moved in sequence to Lafayette, LA, Cody, WY, and Shidler, OK. Major Haas, a petroleum engineer, remained in the army reserves and was killed while serving in 1960. Mary Frances returned to Bartlesville where she raised her children and cared for her father and brother until their deaths. Mary Frances was fond of family genealogy, belonging to the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Huguenot Society. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary and was president when the WWII peace was declared. She remained a member of the Bartlesville Auxiliary 989 until her death. She has also retained membership in the Bartlesville Tuesday Club of University Women of which she was a past president. She moved to Austin, TX in 1998 to live with her daughter. She enjoyed doing needlework with the group at the senior center, travel, and staying current on her computer and iPad. She remained competitive in games throughout her life. She was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church of Austin, TX. Mary Frances will have a graveside memorial in Bartlesville, OK at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2nd, 2013 at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests any memorial contributions be made to your local SPCA in support of her life-long love of animals. She is survived by her son, Dr. Gilbert G. Haas, Jr., (405-524-7812) and wife, Jeannie, of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter Virginia L. Haas and life-long friend, Mamie Hickerson, of Austin, TX; and foster daughter, Brenda Cummins, of Bartlesville, OK. Her grandchildren are: Shane Haas and Meghan of Los Angeles, CA; Ashley Haas and Jennifer of Tehachapi, CA; Ben Haas and Molly of Bella Vista AR; Tyler Haas and Meredith of Oklahoma City, OK; Sabrina Conley and Jeff of Skiatook, OK; Allen Jacobson and Amanda of Bartlesville, OK; Sharla Cummins and Mike of Bartlesville, OK; Rebecca Ballinger and Jesse of Tucson, AZ; and John Long and Guy Sampier of New Orleans, LA. Surviving great-grandchildren are Liam, Gladys, Greta, Parrish, George, Griffin, Anthony, and Addison.
