Mary Rummel Mary Rummel died on March 3, 2013, in Austin, Texas, following an illness. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Weed- Corley-Fish Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive. Mary was born on August 25, 1921, in Columbus, Kentucky. She graduated from Clinton High School in Kentucky and attended Murray State College in Kentucky, where she was a member of the women's basketball team, and the University of Louisville, where she graduated with a degree in journalism. After working for the Ft. Worth Star Telegram in the late 1940s, she moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, where she met and married Emmett Rummel, an electrical engineer for the City of Austin Utilities. During the 1950s and most of the 1960s, Mary was a homemaker and mother. In the late 1960s, she returned to the University of Texas where she earned a teacher's certification and later taught 4th grade in the Austin Independent School District for more than 20 years. In her later years, she moved to Dripping Springs where she spent her time as a birdwatcher, basketball fan, avid follower of Democratic politics, and most of all as a doting grandmother. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Emmett, in 1986. She is survived by her children Leah Rummel, James Rummel, and Jack Rummel of Dripping Springs, her grandsons Brandon Rummel of Austin, Texas, and Patrick Bradshaw Jr. of Denver, and her sister-in-laws Sue Rummel and Hollice Funkhouser.
