READ, Melissa Elayn
Our gracious Lord received unto Himself the soul of Melissa Elayn Read on Thursday evening, March 6, 2014. Her sudden and unexpected passing is mourned by her devoted husband Mitchell Read, her loving mother and father Melinda and Bill Wilson and her brother and dearest friend Matthew Wilson along with uncounted wonderful family members and friends.
Melissa was born on May 3, 1977 in Hahn, Germany and spent the early part of her life traveling the world with her family. From Europe to many locations around the United States and the Republic of Panama, she shared her love of life and vibrant personality with all she met making many dear friends who remain such today.
As her parents settled in Round Rock she attended Round Rock High School, participating in many extra-curricular activities and met the love of her life, Mitchell Read, whom she would marry at St William Catholic Church in 2001.
Melissa later graduated from the University of Texas
and was a lifetime member of the Texas Exes, and was always ready to tell anyone it was THE only university in Texas. She continued her love of education working on her Master's degree in English Literature, mating that with her fondness for England and especially, London.
Her immense and strong Christian faith led her to the Roman Catholic Church as she and her Mitchell became active parishioners at St. William in Round Rock, where she sought every opportunity to enhance her love of Christ. She was a member of the Parish Pastoral Council and through her commitment to her faith she led others to Him, proudly including her mother, Melinda.
She also loved and joyously contributed hundreds of hours to the Junior League of Austin serving in several leadership roles and working diligently on the annual A Christmas Affair. She believed strongly in the gracious voluntary work they did for underprivileged children and sought every opportunity to be of service, again making many wonderful friends.
But, beyond a doubt, the touchstone of her life was her love for Mitchell. To say that they were a perfect couple, in tune in every way and totally committed to each other does not even scratch the surface of their love and marriage. Their shared memories include travel, "Camp Read", their beautiful home, an unimaginable devotion and a love beyond comprehension.
In addition to Mitchell, her mother, father and brother, Melissa is also survived by her grandmother, father-in-law Steve Read, brother-in-law Spencer and his family, Aunts Kay, Beth, Marilyn, Karen and Lynda, and Uncles Budge, Mike and Sam, cousins Taryn, Travis, Greg, Chris, Taylor, Ben, Dennis, Kim, Brooke, Bryce and their families, and a long, loving list of friends including Robyn, Kim and Tom, Melissa, Jenny, Kelly, Arthur and Gerald and so many more who have so graciously offered their love and support and without whom strength would fail us. She is also supported through Christ, by her spiritual family, Fathers Will, Dean, Uche, Louis, Alex, and Jonathan.
Melissa is to be remembered at a visitation from 5-7pm on Monday evening followed by a Rosary at 7pm at Beck Funeral Home in Round Rock. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St William on Tuesday morning at 10am.The family wishes to thank all of those who have offered condolences, love and support, especially the family she so cherished and adored. Mitchell respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in the name of Melissa Read, to the Junior League of Austin or the ministry at St William Church.
