Michael James McCann Michael James McCann, 51, of Austin, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, June 29, 2013. A devoted and loving father, husband, brother, son and friend, he is survived by his wife Vanessa (Mojica) McCann, their children William and Catarina and, his mother, Velma McCann Diamond, his brother William McCann and sister Tris McCann, sisters-in law Gwenn Gallagher, Renee McNerhany and Deanna Carreno, brother-in-law Robert Carreno, nieces Caitlin McCann, Meghan McCann, Claudia Carreno and Sofia Carreno, nephew David Carreno, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his father William H. McCann. Michael worked for the City of Austin for over 23 years and his last job was at the Terrazas Branch Library. He was known by many patrons for his enthusiasm, friendship and support. He loved canoeing and swimming with his children. His other interest included camping, archeology, literature and chiromancy. He was a longtime Cherrywood resident and was fondly known by his neighbors and never met a stranger. Michael was a gentle, funny, sweet man who wished everyone well and brought goodness to the world. He will be greatly missed. Services will be held Friday, July 5, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX. Visitation will precede the service from 2:00-3:00 p.m. The McCann family requests donations be made to William and Catarina's college fund in lieu of flowers.
