Robert L. Martin

Robert L. ("GrandBob") Martin 1922-2013 Robert Lee Martin, 91, died Monday, August 19, 2013, at his home in Kerrville, Texas. A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Martin was born April 20, 1922, to James L. and Leah Martin in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He was a 1944 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin who worked his way through college and earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He worked for Humble Oil & Refining (now Exxon) in Baytown, Texas, where he developed a number of leading edge processes for the chemical industry and refinery automation, and held numerous patents. At Humble Oil he also met his future wife Mary Louise Ewing of Baytown. While at Humble, he and his family enjoyed the opportunity to live in New Jersey and in England, always returning to Baytown. He left Exxon to start his own business from which he later retired. As an active stock market trader his entire adult life, he relished daily trading in the stock market and in collaboration with other on-line traders up until his death. Mr. Martin delighted in his marriage, his work, and in parenting his three sons. The boys especially enjoying bay-front living in Baytown. He loved travel, especially trips with Mary to Banff, Lake Louise, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone and Montana. He was an extremely loving husband to Mary, Dad to his three children, and "GrandBob" to his six grandchildren and one grandchild. He is survived by the love of his life of 65 years, Mary; and three sons: Kenneth E. Martin of Baytown and his wife Randee King, Donald G.
