Dr. Stanislav Zimic
Dr. Stanislav Zimic died in Austin on August 25, 2013 at age 83. Dr. Zimic was born on May 4, 1930 in Deskle, Slovenia. After serving his country as a part of the resistance in World War II
and then studying in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Dr. Zimic came to the United States in the 1950's. He completed an MA at the University of Miami and a PhD in Romance Languages at Duke University. He was very proud of his adopted country, and became a US citizen. Dr. Zimic came to Austin in 1962 to work as a professor in the Spanish and Portuguese department at the University of Texas
, where he was tenured and taught for 51 years. During that time, he published many books and essays in his field. He was very creative and particularly passionate about his work with his students. Dr. Zimic is survived by his wife of 35 years Nereida Zimic of Austin, his daughters Deborah Zimic and husband Roland of Baltimore, Maryland, Kristiana Williams and husband David of Reston, Virginia, and Melanie Zimic and husband Isidoro of Herndon, Virginia, and six grandchildren Ryan, Nathan, Matthew, Alex, Claudia and Lucas. Other survivors include his sister Adriana, and his nephews Oleg and Borut, and niece Dasa, all of Slovenia. No funeral is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations to the
