SNIDER, Viola Bowman
Viola Bowman Snider died May 13, 2014 in Austin, Texas at the age of 73. She was the only child of Charles Bowman and Catherine Davies, and was born November 28, 1920 in Austin, Texas. After graduation from Austin High School she entered The University of Texas
at Austin earning a degree in Nutrition in 1942. While working at Brackenridge Hospital as assistant dietician she met Robert N. Snider, an X-ray Technician, who was also employed there while taking pre-med courses at the University. They were married Jan. 22, 1944.
After the war she attended the University of Houston earning a teaching certificate then taught in the Galveston Public Schools while her husband attended Medical School and later in Washington D.C., and Montgomery County Maryland as he completed his internship and residency.
When they returned to Austin in 1954 she was very instrumental in the founding of the Austin Radiological Group, later to become the Austin Radiological Association, and with its subsequent growth. She taught Sunday school classes for many years, did much volunteer work and was active in politics. She is past-president of the Travis County Medical Auxiliary and is a long standing member of Hillcrest Baptist Church
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Newton Snider, their son, Robert (Bob) Snider Jr, and his wife Lisa, their son Robert N. Snider III all of Austin, and daughter, Kimberly Michelle Snider Greene of Phoenix Arizona and their children Halie Violet Greene and Jack Samuel Greene; their son James Bowman Snider and wife Pamela and their children Emily Francis and William Enoch of Southlake Texas; Their daughter Susan Lynn Snider Collier, her husband John and their sons David and Michael of Bastrop Texas.
At her request there will be no visitation or formal funeral services. Later, private graveside services will be held at Austin Memorial Park where her ashes will be buried.
