Yense Adolph HOPKE(1932 - 2014)

HOPKE, Yense Adolph

Yense Adolph Hopke, affectionately known as Y.A., passed away on March 27, 2014. Y.A. was a highly respected man for his great integrity, loyalty, and contagious smile.



Born on Dec. 4, 1932 to George and Agnes Hopke of Illmo, Mo., Y.A. was a grocer's son that took pride in his family, his heritage, and the value of hard work. He took that pride with him to defend his country during the Vietnam War and two tours to Korea serving in both the Navy and Air Force. During his distinguished career as an air traffic controller he received multiple medals including the Bronze Star for heroism during combat.



After marrying Edna, the love of his life, they enjoyed their retirement years pursuing interests in cattle ranching in North Texas and various entrepreneurial endeavors in the Texas Hill Country.



Y.A. was a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge for almost 60 years, and a member of the Ben Hur Shrine becoming a permanent contributing member of the Shriners Children's Hospital. Through his association with these respected organizations he made many long-lasting relationships. Together, Y.A. and Edna enjoyed traveling, bowling, shooting competitions, and any opportunity to spend time with family and friends.



Y.A. is survived by his caring wife of 41 years Edna Hopke, beloved pet Patches, daughter Cathy DaVault, granddaughter and husband Mallory and David Shackelford, and great-granddaughter Ava Grace of Austin, Texas as well as Lee Weigold of Phoenix, Arizona.



Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Harrell Funeral Home Chapel, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX.
