James Bradley Whitworth

James Bradley Whitworth, PhD Jim Whitworth passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011. Jim was born March 17, 1934 at Seton Hospital, Austin, to Horace and Mozelle Whitworth. He was raised in South Austin and attended St. Ignatius, Fulmore, Allen and S. F. Austin schools graduating in 1951. He worked for the Texas Highway Department in Austin, then Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas. Jim returned to Austin in 1960 to attend the University of Texas, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering, where he earned SBME, MSME, and PhD (Nuclear Engineering). From 1968 until 1998 he worked for Texas Nuclear (TN Technology) until he retired in February 1998. Jim served on the board of the Austin Senior Golf Association. Jim's favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, camping, golf, and smoking ribs, jerky and homemade sausage. Jim is survived by his wife Edel , his brother Terrence (Terry) Whitworth and wife Patty, his daughter Deanna Kroeger and husband Bill, grand children Tasha Kroeger Johnsen, and Shawn Kroeger and son James Plumb and wife Christy and granddaughters Amanda and Ashley. Together Jim and Edel have four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his Hero uncle, Howard Whitworth and many cousins who reside in the Watterson community in Bastrop County. The family would like to thank Hospice Austin for the care that they provided.
