Albert DiCristofaro Obituary

Albert (Al) J. DiCristofaro Albert (Al) J. DiCristofaro, 89, passed away from complications of Alzheimer's Disease, June 27, 2012. He was a resident of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his parents, and his 5 brothers. He is survived by his children Al DiCristofaro, Jr. (Sue) of Austin, Robert DiCristofaro (Doreen) of Hope, RI, Kathryn Casey (Steven) and Lori Nease (Matt) of Greenville, NC; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Al was born in West Warwick, RI, the fourth of 6 children born to Anna Maria (Petrocelli) and Vincenzo DiCristofaro. In 1947 he married the love of his life, Shirley Costa. Al was always a hard worker and often worked 2 and 3 jobs to support his family. He was an aircraft electrician at Quonset Point, RI and in 1974 relocated the family to New Bern, NC due to his transfer to MCAS Cherry Point. Al never made a lot of money. He knew, however, how to save and because of that he fully funded his and Shirley's long, arduous journey through Alzheimer's. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his immaculately manicured lawn. His dry sense of humor and warm smile endeared him to people throughout his life. He never sought the "spotlight," but could always be counted on behind the scenes. To his wife and children, there was never any doubt that his love was genuine and unconditional. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Iannotti Funeral Home, Coventry, RI from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in West Warwick at 10:00 a.m. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Arden Courts of Austin for the compassionate care they provided to Al over the last several years. It's an incredible place with incredible people. Memorial contributions in Al's honor can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Austin or your local Alzheimer's chapter.

Al and family,
I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I know that these last few years have been hard on you and your family. As the child of a parent who had Alzheimers, I have always admired the way you handled having both parents with the disease. As your Dad's obituary said, I am so thankful for the incredible staff that we found at Arden Courts.

Dear Kathy,
I'm so sorry that I was not able to be there for the services for your father. I do hope that you find the strength to go on without the physical being of your father here on earth. Your dad will always be as close to you in spirit. During those times when you feel you need, or miss your father the most, don't hesitate to look to the Heaven's and call out his name and talk to him. He will be there with you always, and help light your path when you feel alone and lost. I find comfort in these thoughts myself. I pray you do too. With love and affection,
Your cousin, Lynn
