Glenn Weimer Obituary

WEIMER, Glenn Del Dr. Glenn Del Weimer passed away January 11, 2018 from pneumonia complicated by Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease. Glenn was born September 4, 1935 in New Mexico. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed traveling, the theatre and time with family and close friends. He devoted his career to serving people in need, first as a Methodist pastor and later as a marriage and family therapist. After graduating from Southwestern University in 1958, Glenn attended SMU's Perkins School of Theology. He served several Methodist churches, including ones in Dripping Springs, Center City, San Angelo and Denton. While pastor at Center City United Methodist Church, Glenn began dating his future wife, Jackie McCasland. Glenn and Jackie wed June 30, 1961. He combined interests in theatre and music with his role as pastor, directing many musical performances and plays. Glenn founded the Head Start Program in Charlotte as part of the education initiative under then President Lyndon B Johnson. Glenn returned to school to earn a PhD before opening Plano's first marriage and family therapy practice in 1975. The practice Glenn started continues today as Alma Associates. Glenn's service to people in need always went beyond his occupational work. When Plano had a rash of teenage suicides in the early 1980s, he started the Plano Crisis Center and the Collin County Crisis Hotline. Glenn was respected as a mental health leader in his community. He served on Collin County's Mental Health Commission, and on the Boards of the Texas Association of Marriage & Family Therapists and the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapists. After retiring, Glenn resumed his interests in theatre. He had acting roles in two movies - a pastor in "Almost Time" (2002) and an old man in "Screen Door Jesus" (2003) - and in several TV commercials. Glenn spent his final years in Austin, and is survived by his wife, two sons (Steve and John), four grandchildren (Madison, Jack, Cecily, and Sam), and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to his wife, his son John and his wife and children reside in Austin. A memorial service will be at 2:00PM, February 16, 2018 at the Trinity United Methodist Church (4001 Speedway, Austin, TX). In lieu of flowers, please contribute donations in Glenn's honor to Charcot-Marie-Tooth research (https://www.hnf-cure.org/donate-hnf/).

My friendship with Glenn was at Southwestern and later when he attended Perkins. He was a good friend always willing to listen and help if he could. Unfortunately we lost contact through the years. He will be missed by many that he helped through the years.

Glenn and Homer were great colleagues in the old SWTX Methodist Conference; and I knew Jackie McCasland before she married Glenn. Glenn will always be part of my family of memories.
