I did not know Nathan well, we were mere acquaintances and fellow seniors. We only spoke once or twice, but I knew he was a genuinely loving person and friend to all. I constantly pray for Nathan and the entire Austin family for healing and strength. Nathan is always in my thoughts, and I always keep the Austin family in my prayers.

Karen and Paul,
I still remember Nathan as a skinny 2nd-grader playing on our T&C Soccer team. He was quiet, respectful, and compassionate then, and as far as I can tell, remained so until his last days on this earth. I don't know how you bear the pain of losing a child, especially one so young, but I do know that the Lord will not give us more than we can handle. So I know you can do it, with His help, and His grace. I pray that Jesus will wrap his loving arms around all of you, and fill you with His peace as He walks you through this darkest of times.

Dear Austin Family -
The thoughts and prayers of so many are surrounding your family at this time of sadness and loss. Since music was so important to Nathan, maybe this poem will bring you some comfort. I don't know who wrote it ... it was given to me when a loved one passed away.
A life is like a song we write
In our own tone and key,
Each life we touch reflects a note
That forms the melody
We choose the theme and chorus
Of the song to bear our name.
And each will have a special sound,
No two can be the same.
So when someone we love departs,
In memory we find
Their song plays on within the hearts
Of those they leave behind.
Nathan's "song" will continue in many hearts. God bless you all.

Paul and Karen,
To me, Nathan personified everything that is good about life. He always seemed happy and tried to focus on the positives in life. He was a very loving and caring person; a great and loyal friend to J.C. Nathan demonstrated Christian values in his daily life.
He was extremely athletic. And perhaps the trait that I'll remember the most, was his desire to learn and live life to the fullest. Nathan wasn't afraid to try new things! When we asked him about playing flag football, Nathan stated that he had never played on a team before, but that he'd give it a shot. He had the determination and internal drive to succeed at everything he did, and flag football was no exception. Nathan eagerly learned the game, practiced hard, and improved dramatically with each new game played.
J.C. and I had fun playing basketball, football, softball and more with him. We enjoyed chicken wings and friendly trivia competition at Fowlers. And for me, it was so much fun to compete with two young men smarter than myself! And conversations were always lively and interesting, as we would jump from one topic to another totally unrelated topic.
Everything I can say about Nathan is positive, which makes his passing all the more difficult. He had the ability to impact those around him for the better, which is a rare gift. So if I were to guess what Nathan is doing today, I can picture him exploring the awesomeness of heaven, excited to learn and experience all that God has to offer him.
Nathan was such a terrific young man. And while his time here on earth was too short, he will remain forever in our hearts and memories!
We are praying for you and your family!

"Nathan was intricately and wonderfully made by You, Lord, so marvelously complex. You placed your hand of blessing on his head, and You drew him to You.
The amazing depths of your love for Nathan are wonderfully displayed in giving him such special parents. Thank you for giving Nathan to them - to his siblings - as a unique and precious gift, if only for a little while.
We know that every day of Nathan's life was recorded by You, loving Father, before even a single day of his life had passed. You knew how long you would 'loan' your precious child to us, and we trust in Your plan, Father, even though we don't understand.
We rejoice that Nathan, like the psalmist, can say, 'I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!"
Karen, Paul and family ~ may the God of all peace and comfort wrap you in His loving, tireless arms now...and always...
We love you,

Dear Austin family,
I remember the first time I met Nathan. It was five years ago… So I was in sixth grade and he was in seventh. I had just started playing the flute. I was nervous and scared and insecure. But he helped me to gain the confidence that I have today. He was always that guy that took the time out of his day to make someone else smile. Thank you for that, Nathan. He was an amazing person and he was always so kind. He was always the person to make my days brighter with his words, smile and laughter. I'll miss you dearly, Nathan. Thank you for all the things you've done for me. I'll never forget you. Mr. and Mrs. Austin and family, you guys are in my thought and prayers.<3

Having known Nathan for a long time and having had many wonderful experiences with him, I can perhaps fathom a slight fraction of the grief you feel and I wanted to encourage you with these verses to be strong in the Lord through this time.
2 Corinthians 4:11-18 "For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. It is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in His presence. All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
Praying for you,
John Yates
