Frieda Neff Obituary

Frieda Annie Neff Frieda Annie Neff, age 89, passed away quietly on September 5, 2009. She was born on February 8, 1920, Hamilton County, Texas, to Anna Marie and Gustav August Peters. Hamilton County was a German farming community where Frieda was raised on a farm and spoke German until she started school. Frieda was a devoted Christian all of her life. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Shive, Texas, where she grew up and was confirmed. After moving to Austin she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and then for many years was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin. She will be remembered for her love of faith and love of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She first worked for Scarborough's Department Store in Austin. At the age of 79, Frieda retired after 43 years of service at The University of Texas in Austin as a Professor's Assistant in the Human Ecology Department. She was interviewed for a UT Newsletter at the time of her retirement and her philosophy was stated as: "I always came early, and did my job. I still do. And I loved those students." Several years after retirement, Frieda moved into Heatherwilde Assisted Living in Pflugerville where she adopted her new family. We graciously appreciate the care and love given to her by the staff at Heatherwilde. Frieda leaves behind her children, daughters, Donna J. Perez, Patricia Wertz and husband Tony; son, Curtis Neff and wife, Mary; grandchildren, Michelle, grandson- in-law, James, Stephanie and husband Scott, Shea and wife Emilee, Chad and Nikki, Stephen and wife Heather, Rebecca and husband Alex; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Brandon, Ty, Able, Alex, Trinity, Reed and Kalib; adopted granddaughter, Monica and husband, Shane and their two children; step-great- grandchildren, Trevor and Travis; sisters, Paula Eisen, Lydia Wagner and husband, Leamon; brother, Gus Peters; along with many loving nieces and nephews. Greeting her into heaven were her parents; her children's father, Gene Neff; sisters, Anna Nord, Marie Hunter and Ida Carlson; brothers, Carl Peters, Fritz Peters, Otto Peters. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Cook- Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1500 West Anderson Lane, Austin. Burial will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to LWML, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, 1500 W. Pat, I remember your mother coming over to get a ride home with you while she worked at UT. She always had a smile even at the end of the day. Keep your memories close at heart and the knowledge that she loved all of you wholeheartedly.

Always,

Pat,
You must feel most fortunate to have had your Mom in your life, and that of your children and grandchildren.

Indeed my favorite memory is of her coming to the Station to meet you. What a wonderful example you have been to us all!!

Dudley and I send our sympathy to you and yours.
Always,
Sandy

I worked with Mrs. Neff, as she was known here, at the School of Human Ecology at UT, which was originally called Home Economics when she started way back when. She was a sweet, charming and hard-working lady who was greatly respected and regarded affectionately by all.
I was the guy who was privileged to interview her and wrote the newsletter article that included the quote above. Sitting down and chatting with her was such a wonderful experience. All the more so since my family was from Bell County, just south of where she grew up, and my grandfather also spoke German as a child.

She was always a lady. She was greatly loved at her job. She was missed when she retired. Rest in peace, Mrs. Neff.
