J.O. Garrett Obituary

J.O. (Joe) Garrett Jr. J.O. (Joe) Garrett Jr. passed away quietly in the morning on Monday July 28. He was 74 yrs. old. He was preceded in death by his parents J.O. Garrett and Fenet Griffis Garrett. He is survived by numerous cousins: Vernon Garrett, Dr. Robert (Bob) Garrett, Virginia Neely, Bill Garrett, Sally Garrett, Carol Becht, Jeanie Moore, Alice Dorris, Ben Johnson, Edward Johnson, Rev. Rivers Patout III, Frank Patout, Elizabeth Stone, Jared Patout, and Mary Fenet Deering. Joe was a lifelong resident of Austin and graduated from San Marcos Academy. He was a true burnt orange sports fan of his beloved Texas Longhorns and also his Houston Astros. He volunteered as an usher for many years for University of Texas Longhorn football games. He enjoyed music of all kinds and was proud of his collection of old 78's and 45's that he spun as a disc jockey at the YMCA dances in his younger years. He loved taking photos for college events and spending time and being creative on the computer chat rooms where he made many friends and many people smile. Joe loved to drive and served proudly as a driver for Hertz for many years until health issues forced him into retirement. His friendship with Sally Rudd of Austin gave him and her both comfort in his last years. The family wishes to thank his many friends at The Heritage at Gaines Ranch for all the care and support they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Samuel Jon Werner Medical Fund, in c/o Vernon G. Garrett, Jr., 7480 Beechnut Blvd. #507, Houston, TX 77074 May you now rest in peace, Joe, and be with those who love you. We'll miss you. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and a service celebrating his life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday August 1, 2008 in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 N. IH35, Pflugerville, TX.
