Helen Box Obituary

Helen Louise Oliver Box Helen Louise Oliver Box was born January 2, 1921, at Sibley Hospital on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. to Sidney and Anna Mae Oliver. She passed away on Sunday, July 6th in Austin, Texas. Helen graduated from Eastern High School and worked as a telephone operator during World War II. After the war, she met and married Cecil Loy Box on June 11, 1946. He was a young army war hero from Texas who was assigned to the Pentagon. The couple settled in Texas after a 22-year army career which included stops in Japan, (where their daughter Pat was born), Ft. Bragg, N.C. (where their son Mike was born), two tours of duty in Germany, and ended at Ft. Benning, GA. Helen adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, her brother Buddy, and her lifelong friends, Centa Lindner, Hope Nusbaum, Dorothy Bevil, and Glen and Betty Moore. Helen is preceded in death by her husband Cecil, and is survived by her children, daughter, Patricia Louise Box Sargent and husband Mike of Austin, Texas; son, Michael Richard Box and wife Debbie of Galveston, Texas; and brother, Richard Lee (Buddy) Oliver and wife Peggy of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Patti Sargent-Neely and husband John, Angie Brown and husband Brad, Kyle Sargent and wife Mandy; and great-grandchildren, Courtney Louise Worrell, Shane Neely, Stephen Brown and Addison Sargent, and by numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by Celebration of Life Services at 3:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Reverend Pat Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Oliver, Keith Box, Boyd Box, Gordon Box, Mike Sargent and Glen Moore. The family expresses heartfelt thanks for the comfort and peace given to Helen in the last year of her life to Jonea Raney and the entire staff at Amber's Place. Remembrances may be made to Congressional Cemetery, Washington, DC, www.congressional cemetery.org, (202) 543-0539, where her parents and grandparents are buried.
