Elizabeth COHEN Obituary

COHEN, Elizabeth D.

Elizabeth D. Cohen passed away peacefully on January 6, 2014. Liz was born on November 26, 1952 in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her husband Harvey and daughter Emily, her parents, Dr. Abe and Cacilie Daily of Houston, her brother Ben Daily and his wife Eva and daughter Paloma, her brother Dr. Bill Daily and his wife Pam and daughters Alexis and Sophie, her sister Nancy Daily, her brother-in-law Bruce Cohen and sister-in-law Paulette Cohen. She also is survived by many wonderful aunts and uncles and cousins.

After graduating from the University of Texas in 1975, Liz began a long career in public relations, working for the Travis County Democratic Party, State Representative Gerald Hill, and other public agencies. She also managed election campaigns for local officials, and maintained a constant, avid interest and involvement in political issues at the local, state and national level.

"Ani l'dodi, v'dodi li." "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine." With these words, she and Harvey were married in August 1988. In October 1993, Liz and Harvey were blessed by the birth of Emily, who has been a constant source of happiness and pride in their lives.

Liz was dedicated to public and community service. She was a director of Planned Parenthood of Austin for many years, involved in several committees at Congregation Beth Israel, and served multiple terms on the Travis County grand jury. Liz was an avid reader, and she loved volunteering at Eanes school libraries, reading for the blind, and participating in her book club. Liz loved to cook and bake, and with her great culinary and organizational skills and much love, she took charge of the care and feeding of hundreds of Westlake High School Choir Department students during their weeklong rehearsals and performances of their annual musical for several years.

Emily and Harvey are grateful for the friendship, love, guidance, support and outstanding medical care provided by Dr. Ace Alsup and his wife Nan. They are truly blessed to have friends as wonderful as Ace and Nan.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 7, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel, 3901 Shoal Creek Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Planned Parenthood, Relay For Life, or the charity of your choice.

To Harvey and Emily. I am deeply saddened by the loss of your sweet, caring, generous, and pleasant wife and mom. I was always so happy to see her when she walked up to our counter because she was always so patient with us and so very very nice to us. She was a pleasure to serve and a joy to be around. We will all miss her so very much.

Dearest Liz, you were so very kind to me always. You brought me dinners when I had cancer, cheering me along the way in the Eanes library with your humor and friendship. Oh, how we will miss you, you were a friend to everyone, a stranger to no one, a true lady in every sense of the word. There are still irises that bloom at Eanes, you touched so many lives. I saw you only recently, never knowing that would be the last time, dearest Liz. Sending prayers of comfort to Harvey and Emily and your beloved family. -Love, Pam Cho and family
