Louisa Mahone Donoghue passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015, and Heaven received another angel. Louisa was born in San Angelo on July 17, 1944, to Dortha Wattinger Mahone and John Thomas Mahone. She grew up in Austin on Jarratt Avenue, was a member of the first graduating class of St. Andrew's Episcopal School and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. She attended The University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, served as President of Ashbel Literary Society and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the Plan II Honors Program. Louisa was a dedicated teacher who taught Texas History in Spring Branch ISD in Houston.

In 1968, Louisa married Richard Stafford Donoghue at St. David's Episcopal Church in Austin. They lived in Houston and Dallas before returning to Austin in 1976. She was a member of the Junior League of Austin, St. David's Episcopal Church, Junior Helping Hand and "Birthday Girls." She was a volunteer for El Buen Samaritano, editor of Capitalines and Secretary of Austin Art League. Louisa was also a camper, counselor and "Ever Loyal Kiowa" at Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas.

Louisa's kind and thoughtful nature endeared her to every soul she met. She will be remembered for her generous, loving spirit, selfless devotion to others and her ability to genuinely connect with anyone. She had a deep and abiding faith that guided her actions and comforted her throughout her life. With courage, grace and equanimity in her battle with cancer, Louisa inspired many over the past 10 months.

Louisa's legacy is her profound relationships and how she enriched the lives of her family and countless friends. She was a beloved wife, a wonderful mother, an adoring grandmother and a devoted sister. Louisa is survived by a large and loving family: her son Richard Stafford Donoghue, Jr. and wife Erin Williams Donoghue; cherished grandchildren Mary Louisa, David Stafford and James Mahone Donoghue; daughter-in-law, Sumita Prasad; sister Eugenia Mahone Harrell; sister-in-law Susan Weber and husband Richard, sister-in-law Vicki Donoghue; nieces Mary Lee Jonkers and husband Randy, Louisa Chandler and husband Brad, Blyth Treuhaft and husband Brian and Ann Donoghue; nephews Reid Harrell and wife Lisa, Chris Weber and wife Kaylin, Vince Donoghue and wife Mavora and Wade Donoghue; great nieces and great nephews Keegan Jonkers and wife Mandy and their children, Reid Jonkers and wife Stephanie, Kelsey Campbell and husband David and their children, Rachel Jonkers, Courtney, Meredith and Brent Chandler, Riley, William and Jack Harrell, Rory, Gentry and Maura Treuhaft, Caroline and Charlotte Weber, Harper Donoghue and Elizabeth and Claire Donoghue.

Louisa is also survived by many, many friends from every stage of her life and was constantly surrounded by their love and support. She always said that she was blessed to have so much love, but it was those of us who knew her who were truly blessed.

The family is grateful for the decades of care and friendship of Dr. Kent Beasley and also wishes to acknowledge the great skill and compassion of Dr. Jane Chawla and her staff, Dr. John David Dallas and his staff, Kenny Drake and Home Therapy, Sarah Manhart and Heart to Heart Hospice and the numerous dedicated caregivers who brought Louisa comfort in the past months.

Louisa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 36 years and her son, John Mahone Donoghue.

The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, April 17th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar. Services will be held on Saturday, April 18th at St. David's Episcopal Church at 1pm followed by interment at Austin Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brad Chandler, Brent Chandler, Vince Donoghue, Reid Harrell, Keegan Jonkers and Randy Jonkers. Honorary Pallbearers are Wade Donoghue, Reid Jonkers, Rick Porter, Chris Weber, Richard Weber, David Williams and Steve Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Austin Community Foundation, For the Love of Christi, Heart to Heart Hospice or a charity of your choice.

And dear Louisa, as you were very fond of telling so many others, "Stars are shining in your crown."
