LANG, Mary Jane "Jane"|
Mary Jane "Jane" Lang passed away February 28th after a short illness that culminated more than a decade-long fight with cancer. She was born September 9th, 1943, in Detroit, MI to George Philip and Leora J. (Hoops) Johannes. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, John Lang, and a daughter Jennifer Ann Lang.
Jane received her baccalaureate from Marygrove College in Detroit and advanced degrees from the University of Michigan and St. Edwards University.
After John retired from the military, the family moved to Austin where Jane worked as a teacher and substitute teacher in Eanes and Austin ISDs. She became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 1993 and started a solo practice in 2006. She was one of the founders and first president of the Texas Sandplay Society, a non-profit organization that promoted Sandplay as a therapy, particularly useful for children.
Jane was a devoted wife, a beloved mother, a teacher, a mentor, and a friend to all whom she knew. She loved pets and traveling. She was an active member and one of the founding families of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. She volunteered as an usher at Bass Concert Hall.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 5455 Bee Caves Road, Austin, Texas. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, March 7, 2014, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church under the direction of Harrell Funeral Home, Austin, Texas.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas.
