Charles C. Shierlow Nov 9, 1927-June 24, 2013 Charles Chester Shierlow, 85, of Manchaca, TX formerly of Austin, TX died suddenly at his home on Monday, June 24, 2013. He was preceded in death by his father August B. Shierlow and mother Stephanie Kretchmar Shierlow, older brother, John Paul Shierlow, and first wife Charlotte Myrle Bloomer Shierlow. In 1946 Charles graduated from Austin High School. Charles and his brother John started and operated one of the first heating/air conditioning businesses in Austin in the late 1940's and early 1950's. In 1952 Charles went to work at First Federal Savings and Loan Association as a real estate appraiser. Over the years he worked his way up until he was named Senior Vice President of the Association and also served as Secretary of the Board of Directors. He retired from the Association in 1986. In 1954 he married Charlotte Myrle Bloomer and they had two children, Carolyn Kay and Charles August Shierlow. Charlotte died from complications of Multiple Sclerosis in 1974. In 1978 Charles married Joyce Ann Blanchard Fleischauer of Kerrville. The couple purchased acreage in Manchaca where they built their home and resided there for the next 35 years until his death. Charles was an active member of West Austin Rotary Club for many years serving in every office available over time. He belonged to the Horseless Carriage Club of America, the Antique Automobile Club of America, and the Model T Ford Club of America. In 1990 he and Joyce formed the Cen-Tex Tin Lizzies, a local Chapter of the Model T Club. In 1995 Charles and Joyce drove their Model T touring car from Manchaca to the Arctic Circle and back making the trip in 72 days and covering over 10,000 miles. From 1990 until late 2002 he and Joyce established and ran a new and used antique car parts business. Charles was a kind, caring and loving man who loved life and especially his family. He was a gentle man that managed to see something good in all whom he met. Charles is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter Carolyn Braxton and husband Larry, son Charles A. Shierlow, step son Mark Fleischauer and wife Janell, step daughter Nancy Starnes and husband Bill, and step daughter Amy Davis and husband Paul, as well as 7 grandchildren Lucas Ryan Braxton, Kelsey Leigh Braxton, Matthew Allen Fleischauer, Sara Gayle Fleischauer, Erin Noel Starnes, Kelley Gayle Starnes, Daniel Allen Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar from 5pm until 7pm on Friday, June 28 and funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013.
