Dear Mrs. Hixson & family, I first met Dr. Hixson when I first started working in ECE in 1984. In 25 years he always treated me with kindness and he never changed. I admired him and I know his students did too. Although he would make me think twice when I would complain when walking from the parking garage to the ENS building, and he would stride by for his daily run. Always saying hello but never losing a stride. He was a beautiful person. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Our hearts go out to you all on the recent passing of Kathryn and Dr. Hixson. I will never forget Dr. Hixson's smiling face as he "observed us" while we girls' barrelled into your family kitchen and home as teenagers, still barrelling in as adults over the years. It seems like just yesterday, really. Always such a pleasure to spend time with all the Hixson's, who were and are always so welcoming. I hope that you can find some solace in happy memories during this very difficult time. Please let me know what we can do to help...Love David and Mel Guthrie-Baker

Dear Mrs. Hixson & family,
I was a graduate student under Dr. Hixson in 1992 - 1994. He was a very nice and supportive mentor, and he helped me to adjust to UT Austin as a foreign student. I always remember his kindness, and his passion for acoustics and for running. I am glad that I had a chance to meet him again last year at his house.
My deepest sympathy to all of you. May God give you strength in this difficult time.

Dr. Hixson was my graduate advisor at UT Austin. He was not only a great mentor, but also a great person. He was a kind man, with a great passion for his field and education. It is a great loss for the UT and the greater Austin community. I was very saddened to hear about his passing away on Feb 10th; my deepest condolences to his wife and his extended family.

Dear Hixson Family,
I work in the ECE department. While I didn't work directly with Dr. Hixson, I always saw him in the building and loved talking with him. He is one of the sweetest and kindest men I had the pleasure of meeting. I will greatly miss him.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Joanne, Although I did not know your dear father, reading his obituary leads me to understand that only such a fine man could have raised you to be the wonderful woman I know today. My sympathy to you and your family. Sincerely, Diane (Dee's Mom)

Aunt Betty, Irene, Joanne, Jim,
I am so sorry for your loss. Uncle Laverne was an exemplary person, and an inspiration to all of us. I now find myself inspired to try and run 3 miles a day. If he could do it, so can I.
If there is anything I can do, please let me know.
Your cousin, Leslie Hutcherson Lockwood

Prof. Hixson (Elmer) made the world a better place. He was, to me, an outstanding friend, mentor, and example. Hopefully in the afterlife we can join up for a marathon or two!

To the Hixson family: My name is Kate Knezek and I was a graduate student under Dr. Hixson in 2002. He was the most wonderful professor, mentor, and friend, and I was very much influenced by his love of life, his enthusiasm for teaching, and his endless generosity towards his students. He touched many lives, including mine, and your whole family has my deepest sympathy.

Joanne, Mrs. Hixson, James, and Irene:
My heart broke for you all when I read about Mr. Hixson's passing.
Joanne, I have so many fond memories of your parents - they always welcomed me into their house with open arms (even though we probably drove them nuts!) And they were so helpful to my parents by driving them to the football games so they could all watch us march. It seems like only yesterday!
I will keep you and your family in my prayers as you go through this sad, sad time. May your memories stay strong and sweet and never fade.
My love to you all,
Sherrie Gerke Shaver
