Obituary Condolences

George David Belford George David Belford was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, on January 25, 1937, to Nelson and Irma Belford. George passed away on October 5, 2010, in Round Rock, Texas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown, Texas. A service celebrating George's life and his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will be held on Friday, October 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at The First Presbyterian Church, 703 South Church Street, Georgetown, Texas. Interment will follow at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas. George married Lela Jane Ralston on September 16, 1961 in Madison, Indiana. George and Jane enjoyed 49 years of marriage. George was ordained to the gospel of ministry on July 18, 1963, at Roxborough Presbyterian Church, by the Philadelphia Presbytery. He received his degrees from Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, New Jersey, and Louisville Presbyterian Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Following the completion of his education, he served Carmel Presbyterian Church in Glenside, Pennsylvania, for two and a half years before joining the U. S. Air Force. After completing U. S. Air Force Chaplain School in 1966, George entered the U. S. Air Force and served in Tucson, Arizona, Taiwan, and the Vietnam War. Having completed his tour of duty in 1968, he accepted a call to be a pastor of Pierceton Presbyterian Church in Pierceton, Indiana. In 1970, he and Jane moved to Bisbee, Arizona, for George to serve the Bisbee Presbyterian Church. In 1975, George received a call to be pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Hereford, Texas, where he served for nine years. In 1984, George became pastor of the Kingsland Community Church in Kingsland, Texas, where he served for 17 years until retiring in January of 2002. George is survived by his wife, Jane Belford; his daughter, Bonnie Belford; and sons, Bradley Belford, Matthew Belford and his wife Johanna. He is also survived by his three grandsons, Brian Belford, Chandler Belford, and Samuel Belford; his brothers, Roy Belford and his wife, Lynne, Alan Belford and his wife Carol; and sister, Marilyn Plasterer and her husband Paul; along with a host of loving family members and friends. George enjoyed playing chess, playing golf, working crossword puzzles, cheering Philadelphia sports, and caring for his dogs, Pepe, Bisbee, Chico, and Taco. George will deeply be missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the Georgetown Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 409, Georgetown, Texas 78627.
