Gonzalo Martinez Riojas Obituary
Gonzalo Martinez "Rogers" Riojas Gonzalo Martinez "Rogers" Riojas passed peacefully at home surrounded by his nephews, nieces and friends, on Thursday evening, April 12, 2013. He was born January 10, 1921 to Gregorio Riojas and Masedonia Martinez Riojas of Lockhart, TX. Gonzalo was a World War II Veteran in the U.S. Army and was part of the 372nd Engineering General Service Regiment, Company D. He served in France, Germany and Okinawa. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Victory Ribbon 1 Service Stripe and 4 Overseas Service Bars. After completing his military service he worked as an HVAC Technician until his retirement. He was also an active member of Metz Senior Activity Center. He was preceded in death by parents, Gregorio and Masedonia Riojas, sisters Juanita Guerra, Petra Gloria, Agueda Acosta, Juanita DeLeon, Refugia Riojas, Fermina Contreras, Carolina Riojas; and brothers Encarnacion Riojas, Lupe Riojas, Emilio Riojas and Jesse Riojas. Gonzalo is survived by brothers Joe Riojas, Joe "Canasta" Acosta; sisters Georgia Acosta Esquivel, Mary Eva Ortiz, Olivia Riojas and Rebecca Riojas. The Riojas family wants to especially thank Herb Martinez and Hospice of Austin for their warm and loving care for making Gonzalo's last days comfortable. We are very grateful to them. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 at Angel Funeral Home, 1600 S. 1st St. Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 2208 E. 2nd St. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
