Jill Marie Duncan Obituary
Jill Marie Duncan Jill Marie Duncan, age 48, had her last battle with the diabetes she had lived with all her life on Sunday, December 9th. She is now free, no longer a prisoner to her wheel-chair and dialysis machine. Jill was born in Vernon, Texas on January 26, 1964. She was a proud graduate of Texas Tech University (1986) and will be remembered by her many Austin friends from her work at AMD, Texas Health and Human Services Commission and her last career as an AISD child safety specialist. Displaying the fierce independence and competitive spirit that had made her a junior tennis champion with a room full of trophies, Jill Marie managed to hobble to and from this work, all the while fighting the ravages of diabetes to her hands, feet and legs. As recently as a week ago, she mentioned that she was looking forward to getting her prosthesis fitted so she could get back to work. Realizing the struggles she faced, her foremost ambition and prayer was to live to see her daughter, Kelsey Hladik, graduate from high school. She more than accomplished this objective, seeing Kelsey into her third year at Texas Tech, where she is an honor student and serves as an officer of her sorority. Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Frank L. and Roe Formby Duncan of Vernon, Georgetown and Roaring Springs. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her husband, Mike Powers; brother, Senator Robert Duncan of Lubbock; three sisters, Franki Locke of Fort Worth, Carol Wright of Plano and Mary Duncan Burgess of Austin; numerous nephews and nieces, including her "running buddies", Austin nieces Cheryle Locke and Vanessa Burgess; special friends Kat and Bret Heim; and her beloved dog, Mia. The family wishes to thank Jill's physicians and health care providers who helped extend her life and provided comfort and hope. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, North Lamar. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Texas Renal Coalition, 7014 Whispering Oaks Drive, Austin, TX 78745 or , P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
