The last time I talked with Johnnie, we talked about my Dad, Frank Pechacek, Jr., who died in June. Johnnie wanted to come to his funeral in Flatonia, but told me he was feeling to ill. But he had a wonderful and positive view of the time he had left. He has now joined his great war buddy, my Dad, two of those who served and suffered for many years to save Freedom.

Johnnie's the last of the true cowboys. When he spoke, he shot from the hip and he gave it to you straight. He was a compationate person pure as gold. He was intelligent without the flaunt and yes we loved our Czech heritage. He helped me on several occasions in my pursuit of family ghost towns namely Hermis and we spoke many, many times of our parents (his mother and my father were siblings) who spoke Czech fluently and some Polish. He also helped me many times on tracing some of our Polish family. He was always willing to help. When Dad was gravely ill, Johnnie would call usually once a week to check on him and for that I will always be grateful. Johnnie, I know you and Dad are in Heaven speaking that beautiful Czech language with the family. We will miss you and see you again one day. We love you. Odpocivat v pokoji.
