Kenneth Wayne Tate Obituary
Kenneth Wayne Tate Kenneth Wayne Tate, 51, of Austin, Texas, died December 26, 2012 after a long battle with kidney cancer. He was born May 28, 1961 in Loraine, Texas to Charlsie and Lewis Wayne Tate. Except for a brief time in California, Kenny grew up in Snyder, Texas and graduated from Snyder High School. While in high school, he enjoyed playing basketball and was a talented player. His passion for the game remained throughout his life. He attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, where he met his wife, Piret. He graduated from the University of Texas-Austin with a degree in Geography in 1988. Kenny held a variety of interesting jobs throughout his life. He worked on oilrigs, as a prison guard, armored car driver, maintenance man for the Cinemark movie chain, a delivery driver for Ascot Tuxedos, and installer of restaurant equipment for Boston Market restaurants. In his spare time, Kenny also worked on repairing cars for family and friends. After graduating from UT, Kenny decided that he would turn his car repair skills into a business, thus Ken's Mobile Automotive Repair was born. He prized his old Oldsmobile station wagon that he used for service calls. In 1998, Kenny opened up a repair shop on Reinli St. He ran a successful business there for ten years. He was known for his honesty, fairness, and mechanical skills. He closed the business after ten years, due to his health, but customers kept calling. He spent the last several years educating himself on oil prospecting and won respect from many members in the oil industry for his knowledge. Kenny enjoyed fishing in Port Aransas, watching movies, especially Westerns, attending concerts and pro basketball games, traveling, and reading the Bible. He was an exceptional and devoted husband, as well as a loving, generous and caring man who family and friends could always count on. Kenny was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Wayne Tate. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Piret, of Austin; his mother Charlsie Tate; sister Judy Leatherwood and brother-in-law, Lynn; brothers Lewis Tate and John Tate all of Snyder, Texas; Aunt Pauline Tate of Austin, Aunt Jimmie Tate of Snyder, Texas; Aunt Billie Tate of Corsicana, Texas, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family wants to thank Hospice Austin, especially his nurse Nicole and the Rev. Ann Hagmann for all of the loving care provided to him since September; Dr. Carlos Rubin de Celis and staff of Texas Oncology in Austin and Dr. Nizar Tannir and staff of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas who helped Kenny with his fight against this horrible and unpredictable disease. Thanks also to all of the family and friends who have provided support, help, and love for the last 6-1/2 years. A celebration of Kenny's life will be held Monday, December 31st at 1:00 pm at Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home, 607 E. Anderson Lane, Austin, TX 78752. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 2nd at 1:00 pm at Snyder Cemetery in Snyder, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kenny's memory to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Rd, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78759 or to the Kidney Cancer Association, PO Box 803338 #38269, Chicago, IL 60680-3338. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
