He retired from the City of Austin and was a life member of the American Legion Post 41 and the VFW Post 8927 in Lockhart. He enjoyed gardening and canning with his late wife and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed in December 1949.

He is preceded in death by his wife Amanda Caldwell, his parents, one brother, two sisters, and one great-grandson. He is survived by his two daughters, Ruby Owen and husband John of Lockhart and Phoebe Giddens of Houston; two sisters-in-law, Alma McWright of Austin and Mary Frances Rauder of Houston; six grandchildren, Randy Owen and wife Becky, Krisi Gorman, Stacie Schroeder and husband Trey, Cassy Sandobal and husband John, Bert Giddens and wife Jennifer, Brittany Burns and husband Harvey; eight great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Dr. Charles Lawrence of Lockhart who gave him outstanding care all of these years and to Chisholm Trail Nursing and Rehab Center in Lockhart. He made his home there for the last six years and received loving care from all the nurses, aides, and staff.

Visitation will be Monday, February 24 from 6pm-8pm at Cook Waldin Funeral Home at 6100 North Lamar, Austin. Services will be Tuesday, February 25 at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 3501 Red River, Austin at 1:00 PM with Pastors Mark Nuckols and Sherman Stenson presiding.
