Maureen Anne Moylan Maureen Anne Moylan died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Colonial Gardens Hospice Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease just shy of her 63rd birthday. Maureen was born the youngest of four children on March 31, 1950 to the late Edward John Moylan and Bernadette Elizabeth (née Ryan) in St. Paul, MN. She was preceded in death by her brother James who died in a mountaineering accident in 1961. Maureen was raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she graduated from North Side High School in 1968. After earning her BS in Occupational Therapy from St. Catherine University in 1972, she moved to Dallas, Texas where she met and married Robert Jordan Syler. Their first child, Ryan Jay Syler, was born in Dallas followed shortly by their daughter, Erin Elizabeth Syler. Their youngest son, Timothy Jordan Syler, was born in Monroe, Louisiana. Maureen's final child, Iain Michael Vollmann, was born in Austin to Maureen and George Vollmann. After returning to Texas and settling in Austin in late 1980, Maureen became the cofounder and later sole owner of the Austin Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Center. Her clinic quickly became the premier rehab center for hand and upper extremity injuries in central Texas treating such patients as musician Willie Nelson and numerous prominent Texas athletes. Her renown in her field was such that in 1984 she was invited to head a delegation to the country of Lesotho to establish community clinics and train local personnel in basic medical care. Maureen sold her practice in 1994 and divided her time between San Diego, California and St. Paul, Minnesota. After the sale of her family's home in St. Paul in 2004, Maureen returned to Austin permanently. Symptoms of Alzheimer's disease began to manifest in 2007 and greatly accelerated in the past year. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Maureen is survived by her son Ryan and his wife Jennifer of Bremerton, Washington, her daughter Erin, her son Timothy of Austin, and her son Iain of Bloomington, Indiana. Extended survivors include her brother Michael Moylan and his wife Lynda of Minnetonka, Minnesota and her sister Elizabeth and her husband Jerome Yatteau of Conifer, Colorado and her dear friend Sheryl Moreno.
