Mineola Grumbles Obituary

Mineola Page Grumbles On Sunday, July 4, 2010, the portals of heaven opened to welcome the arrival of Mineola Page Grumbles. Standing to welcome her was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her beloved husband, Herbert E. Grumbles, Sr., her son, Herbert E. Grumbles, Jr., her sister, Lucinda Florene Page, and many relatives and friends. Mineola was born in Elgin, Texas, on August 15, 1913, to Byrd Franklin Page and Roxie (Masters) Page. She was living in Austin, Texas. Mineola lived a long life in which she honored the Lord. She accepted the Lord as her Savior when she was a child and was baptized in the Colorado River. She graduated from Austin High School and from the University of Texas. Those who knew her knew a person who enjoyed many things throughout her life. She taught piano and organ, taught in Austin public schools, taught Sunday school, was a member of NARFE and ADK in which she held several offices, and knitted caps. The 400-500 caps she knitted each year went to mission groups all over the world and to people in Austin who needed warm caps. She loved her church, Hyde Park Baptist, and especially the people in the senior adult department. She was truly a loving, compassionate person who loved her Lord and her family. She was God's child first and a mother second. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Richard and Janis Mather of Austin, Texas; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Wells and Vonnie Grumbles Akina of Fairfield, Califorina, and many other family members and friends. A family visitation will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. til 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will be Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in the Colonal Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Live Oak Cemetery immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Senior Adult Ministery at Hyde Park Baptist Church, 3901 Speedway, Austin, TX 78759; or to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78759 Condolences may be made at http://www.cookwaldenfuneralhome.com

I too was in Mrs. Grumbles advisory from 1963 - 65. I recently retired from teaching in AISD at Bowie High School. Today's advisors get new students every year. It was great having Mrs. Grumbles for all 3 years of my high school experience.

She was caring and truly an "Advisor".
We started each day in her room and were able to get help with course choices and homework.

My prayers are with her family.
Thank you Mrs. Grumbles for touching my life.

I will never forget seeing Mrs. Grumbles at my freshman Dedication Day and being inspired by her love and support for AHS--she truly embodied the term "Loyal Forever". She will be sorely missed by her Maroon family and always remembered for her love and support of S.F. Austin High and the Austin community.

We will miss seeing Mrs. Grumbles at future Austin High Dedication Day ceremonies. It was always a pleasure to have her return and represent the Class of 1929. She will always be in our thoughts. My sympathies to Janis and the rest of her family. Loyal Forever!

My thoughts and prayers are with Janis and Richard. I remember visiting in Herbert and Mineola's home many years ago when we visited the cousins. Mother always enjoyed Mineola's letters.

Some of my best high school class memories are from Mrs. Grumbles' junior English class. She was always encouraging, kind, and loving. She treated everyone as if we were the smartest students she ever taught. Every now and then, I have read a phrase from literature which reminded me of her. Mrs. Grumbles was truly a classic!
May happy memories comfort you, and remember, nothing separates us from the love of God.
Blessings,

Mrs. Grumbles was such an inspiration. She was my home room teacher from 1963-65. I was fortunate to see her again five years ago at our reunion. We all remember better than anybody else.

Ms. Grumbles was my advisory teacher in the 10th or 11th grade. She was kind. It is hard to think about a teacher in that way when you are 15. I am 62 years old and remember her well. A good and faithful servant. Stephanie Jackson Jenkins

Aunt Mineola was a dear and precious lady, always loving and kind. She will be sorely missed here on earth but I know she was welcomed home to heaven to be with her Savior. Janice and Dick, our prayers are with you even tho we can't be there. Love, Roland and Debbie Law-Davis

Mineola loved to be around people and feel helpfull. Janis, I'm sure you and Richard enjoyed being a part of that. We will certainly miss seeing her at the NARFE meetings.

Mrs. Grumbles was my piano teacher and lived in the next block. How grown up I was walking across Red River to take my lesson. She was always so kind and dear. I have seen her over the years and she never changed. Always happy to see you even if she might not remember you anymore. Such a gracious and loving lady.

Janice and Dick, My prayers are with you during this time of loss. Mineola was such a dear sweet lady. I'm proud to be her cousin and yours.
May you feel God's grace as you adjust to life without your precious mother. Know the flow of tears will come at unexpected moments as they wash away the inevitable sorrow and you rejoice in her heavenly reunion.
Much love,

I always enjoyed seeing Mrs. Grumbles working in the Mission's room at Hyde Park Baptist Church,Vacation Bible School, faithfully making her caps. She lived missions by doing something she loved up until the very end of her life. She is a wonderful example of serving our Lord and others. Janice Vanzura, Austin, TX

Thank you Mrs. Grumbles for your love and support of S.F. Austin High School. Your attendance at all Dedication Day ceremonies was comforting as was your smile and wave to the crowd as the roll was called for the class of 1929.

She was such a treasure to me. We didn't get together often but she was there with her smiles always. Her influence was far reaching!
