Ray Scott ERVIN Obituary
ERVIN, Ray Scott

February 18, 1955 - September 18, 2013 Ray Scott Ervin was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 18, 1955 to Patricia McTee Ervin and Frank Raymond Ervin, the fourth of five children. Scott was raised in Weston, Massachusetts and completed his secondary education at the Dartington Hall School in Devon, England. He graduated from the University of California in Santa Cruz with a B.A. in art history in 1979, and he received his J.D. from Boston College in 1984. Scott practiced corporate law in New York City with Burlingham, Underwood and Lord and continued his law practice in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1988. Scott moved to Austin in 1999, where he was self-employed as an attorney, builder, and investor. Scott had an inventive mind and was passionate about learning. He found great joy designing and building all kinds of structures, tinkering with all things mechanical, creating art, playing the guitar and loudly singing off-key. Scott cherished his family above all else. He loved to travel and looked forward to the annual family road trip in the Big Green Van. Scott was a gourmet chef and delighted in cooking the evening meal, reserving special treats for his little dog Joey. Insightful and wise, he supported his children's many interests and was their advocate in all. Scott will be dearly missed every day. He is survived by his loving wife Leslie Neal Ervin, beloved children Lex, Jack, Katy and Max; parents Patricia McTee Ervin and Frank Raymond Ervin; three brothers and one sister: Stuart, Stephen, Sean and Erin as well as many treasured nieces and nephews. A celebration of Scott's life will take place on Sunday October 6, 2013 in Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Autism Research Institute.
