William ADORNO Obituary

ADORNO, William

"Bill" Gebhard

William "Bill" Gebhard Adorno, 83, passed away October 16, 2014, when his health declined due to a fall in September.

Bill was born and raised in New York City. After serving in Korea with the US Army, he received a BS in Civil Engineering and a BA in Math/Physics from Texas Western College, El Paso, TX. He then accepted an assignment with International Cooperation Administration in Afghanistan - during which he met and married Vonda Lee Sponseller in 1959 and children Justin, Robin, and Noel were born. The family lived in 12 different countries for a career that spanned 40 years, including Samoa, Nigeria, Nepal, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Jamaica, & Mongolia. He received a Master of Public Health from the University of Hawaii. His career included assignments with the World Health Organization and various US Government agencies.

He was creative with artistic talents, many focusing on ceramics and sketching. A true water sign (Cancer the Crab), he found opportunities EVERYWHERE: swimming, body surfing, sailing, spear fishing, water skiing, windsurfing, & deep sea fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Vonda Lee Adorno; son Justin Adorno; daughter Noel Adorno, all of Austin; and his nephew Robert Adorno of Long Island, NY. He is preceded in death by his daughter Robin Adorno.

In lieu of a memorial service, the family is sharing a memorial blog: williamadorno.blogspot.com. Those wishing may take a memorial dip in Barton Springs pool.

I was sad to know of Bill's passing. He always had a word for his neighbors, never meeting a stranger. Will miss his good humor and cleverness.
