Robert W. (Bob) Briggs On June 15, 2012; Robert W. (Bob) Briggs passed away at Christopher House of Hospice Austin in Austin, Texas after a long fight with cancer. He was born in Lampasas, Texas on March 23, 1936 to Wallace E. and Alice C. Briggs. He graduated from Lampasas High School as Valedictorian in 1954 where he was a four sport letterman in football, basketball, baseball, and tennis. He attended Rice Institute and graduated from The University of Texas in Austin in May 1958 with a BBA in Accounting. He later earned a Masters Degree in Banking from SMU in 1971. Bob married Kay Stern on July 28, 1962 in Taylor, Texas. They lived in San Antonio, Harlingen, Mexia, and Austin. Bob began his working career as a national bank examiner with the US Treasury, was a bank officer at various banks, and finished his career retiring from the Texas Department of Transportation. Bob was a devoted Longhorn fan and enjoyed working at the UT football and basketball games, as well as at the Texas Relays. Bob was a good husband, good father, good friend, and good worker. He loved being with his family, the Rotary Club (since 1977), the Tuesday Morning Men's Group, church, and playing tennis. He was quoted as saying; "I hope I never miss a Rotary Club meeting and hope I serve one more ace before I go." It is notable that he managed to go to Rotary for the last time on Monday, June 11. Bob had perfect attendance as a Rotarian for the last 35 years and was an inductee in the Rotary Roll of Fame. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kay, and their two sons, David and Porter. David and his wife, Shannon, and their three children, Bo, JD and Keely, live in Austin. Porter lives in Comayagua, Honduras. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn, along with her husband, Sherwood Yancy, of Lampasas, Texas. They have two daughters, Malinda Johnson and Karen Yancy. He has many cousins that he loves in Texas, Oklahoma, and New York, along with many friends throughout this great state. A Memorial Celebration will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church at 7127 Bee Cave Road, Austin, TX 78746 or Vision of Eternity Ministries c/o Scott Stevens at 5713 Moon Flower Court, Fort Worth, TX 76244 or a ministry of your choice. Friends may stop by the Briggs home on Tuesday, June 19 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
