Ruth Estelle Snoke Dettman Obituary
Ruth Estelle Snoke Dettman Ruth E. Dettman, 94, died at her home in Port Neches, Texas, on Friday, January 18, 2013. She was born in Louraville, Louisiana, to Arthur Charles Snoke and Estelle Judice Snoke. At the age of 2, the family moved to Grand Lake, Louisiana. Ruth graduated from St. Charles Academy in Lake Charles, LA. After graduation she moved to Port Arthur, TX. to attend Port Arthur Business College. After college she worked at the Texas Company, (Texaco). In Port Arthur she met her future husband, Clifford F. Dettman. She married Cliff in 1942, in Camp Roberts, CA, where he was stationed in the Army. After the war, Ruth and Cliff lived in Austin, TX, while Cliff obtained his degree from the University of Texas. They returned to Port Arthur in 1949, to live and raise their family. After raising her children Ruth pursued her talent in oil painting and was an active member of The Texas Artist Museum (TAMS ). She was an avid reader and had a love for growing plants and flowers. She was a member of LaSertoma and active in Retired Senior Volunteers Program, (RSVP). Ruth will be remembered as a child of God who loved laughter and was very giving to her family and community. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Grace Romero of Lake Charles, and her beloved husband of 63 years. She is survived by her children, daughter Shelley of Port Neches, son Greg and wife Loyce of Austin, daughter Debbie and husband Arnulfo Bermudez of Austin, granddaughter Jenna of San Diego, CA, and grandson J.T. of Austin. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 21, at the funeral home with burial services at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2400 5th Street, Port Arthur.
