Robert Frank (Bob) Prasky Obituary
Robert Frank (Bob) Prasky Robert Frank (Bob) Prasky of Austin passed away on February 16, 2013 at the age of 88. Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Steinmetz High School where he was a standout baseball player. Like so many other young men of his time, when his country called, he answered. His Army service during World War II as a tank driver with the 961st Field Artillery Battalion took him to Normandy, France and to the Rhineland in Central Europe. He was awarded three Overseas Service bars, and a European-African-Middle Eastern ribbon with four bronze battle stars for meritorious service in a combat zone. Bob was among the fortunate to return home safely from the war, then worked an entire career as a newspaper pressman in Chicago with Local #7. He was an avid fisherman who for many years enjoyed summer getaways with friends to the lakes of Canada. He landed a few trophies in his time but his biggest catch was when he married Virginia Blumel in 1950. For 62 years, the two of them cherished their family and ballroom danced as often as they could. Bob and Virginia were warmly embraced by the members of Holy Word Lutheran Church after they came to Austin in 1991 and enjoyed spending time with the Let's Dance Club and the Sundancer's Club. All who met Dad enjoyed his simple gift for storytelling and appreciated his easy sense of humor. Our belief is that he is now swapping fish stories in the presence of the Lord with the many friends he made throughout his life. Bob is survived by his wife, Virginia, his son Allen, wife Joy and grandson Michael of Phoenix, Arizona, and his daughter Denise Trybalski and her husband Kevin of Austin, Texas. They extend their thanks to Sagebrook Health Center for the kindness and care they gave to Bob. Memorial services are planned for Saturday, March 2 at 11:00am at the Holy Word Lutheran Church, 10601 Bluff Bend Drive, Austin, TX 78753 followed by a gathering for family and friends.
