Art RUTHERFORD Obituary
RUTHERFORD, Art

Art Rutherford died at home on Feb. 27th after a long illness. He courageously fought with patience, good humor, and appetite for the good. He was born in Harrisburg, Pa. on August 15th, 1945.

Art lived out his faith through his life and works. He was a lifelong Presbyterian, serving as an elder in St. Andrew's Presbyterian in Austin and Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church in New York. As a child growing up in Paxtang, PA, he worked in the church with his dad and grandfather. Art had a strong commitment to social justice, striving to give voice to the voiceless though political activism.

Art shared 40 years of marriage with Donna Rutherford. They shared a deep devotion to family, church, and community along with a love of music, travel, good food, and gardening. They travelled extensively in their Airstream trailer, visiting many national parks. Their son Arthur P. Rutherford IV, daughter-in-law Diana, and granddaughter Natalie Rose were also the loves of his life.

Art and family were served by many excellent members of the medical community: Dr. James Evans with nurses Jake and Whitney; Dr. Harold Cain with assistant Cathy Kovas; Odyssey Hospice; and dear friends Cathy Tice, Jim Rigby, and Babs & Suze Miller. We thank them for their kindness and love.

Service of Remembrance and Celebration will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 14311 Wells Port Dr. 78728 on March 8, 2014 at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Andrew's in Art's name.
