Beverly Jean Harbur Roberts, age 84, of Austin, Texas passed away on March 12, 2014. She was born January 13, 1930 in Dunlap, Kansas. She was the first policewoman in Winnetka, Illinois and served as a secretary for the Civil Service in Germany and Morocco. Beverly lived in Japan with her first husband Bill who was a colonel in the United States Air Force. She loved traveling and enjoyed numerous trips to Egypt, Mexico, Hong Kong, Singapore, Hawaii, Bali, and Tahiti with her second husband, Tom Kemp.
She was preceded in death by her loving partners William Walter Roberts and George Thomas Kemp; her father, Guy Calvin Harbur; mother, Norma Catherine Glover; brother, Wayne Lamar Harbur; sister, Neva Irene Dains and husband Jesse; mother-in-law Maya Wilson; stepmother Lois Harbur; sister-in-law Sammie Deal, and brother-in-law Larry Kerr.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Louise Kemp Avant and husband Bob; granddaughter Elizabeth Avant Gilligan and husband Colin; grandson Scott Thomas Avant; stepson John Marshall Kemp and wife Dawn Teuthorn; grandson Stephen Thomas Kemp and his mother, Julie Mather Lobo; sister Sue Simmons; niece Norma Jean Basile (My Kid); nephew Patrick Basile; great niece Samantha Liang and husband Peter; great niece Beverly Brewer and husband Peter; niece Waynette Harbur; great nephew Charles Wayne Taylor and wife Stephanie; sister-in-law Rita Lee Kerr; niece Kayita Lee Stephens and husband Bill; nephew Donald Lee Kerr and wife Betty, and numerous great, great nieces and nephews.
Beverly loved all animals and contributed generously to the ASPCA and local animal shelters. Her beloved cats gave her great joy through the years, including Boots, Butchy Boy, Tiki, Contessa, Carole, Jane, Shadow and most recently, Savannah.
Special thanks from Beverly to her sister, Sue Simmons, for her timeless devotion. The family also wishes to thank Jane Kawano from Visiting Angels for her love and companionship over the last two years.
In lieu of flowers, Beverly requested that memorial contributions be made in her memory to any humane society, animal shelter or wild animal orphanage of your choice or to the Humane Society of Austin/Travis County, 124 Anderson Lane, Austin, TX, 78752.
A Funeral service will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 16th of March 2014, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas, with Rev. Doug Keenan officiating. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
