WOFFORD, Rebecca Louise Hughes

Rebecca Louise Hughes Wofford, of Austin, Texas died at the age of 66 on Sunday April 27, 2014, in Houston, Texas at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, lovingly surrounded by her family.

Rebecca ("Becky") was born on March 21, 1948 in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi. She grew up in Hobbs, New Mexico with her two sisters, Kay and Jamie. She attended Hardin Simmons University, in Abilene, Texas, graduating cum laude with a Bachelors in Liberal Arts. It was there where she met her husband John, whom she married on July 11th, 1970, in Abilene. Soon thereafter, they moved to Austin while John attended University of Texas School of Law, eventually settling in Northwest Austin. Becky taught high school English and history for several years in both Taylor and Austin, pausing thereafter to rear her children. In 1995 she joined the Texas Education Agency, eventually becoming a Manager in the Student Assessment Security Team.

Becky is survived by her husband John Hammond Wofford, her son Christian Scott and his wife Jennifer Sanders Wofford of Brooklyn, New York, together with a granddaughter, Hollis Clyde Wofford; her son James Webster Wofford of Austin, sister Kay Lee Hughes Smith and her husband Bruce Smith of Dripping Springs; sister Jamie Helen Hughes Coon of San Marcos; brother-in-law Walter Benjamin Webster Wofford of Juno Beach, Florida; nieces Natalie Smith McNeill, Brittney Coon Rodriguez, Amanda Smith Woods, Brigette Leigh Coon, Sarah Smith Sellers, Brooke Coon Shimkus; uncle Joe Lawrence of Nashville, Tennessee; aunt Pat Cogbill of Star City, Arkansas; and uncle Robert Lawrence of Greensboro, North Carolina.

Becky was predeceased by her parents James Everett Hughes and Louise Lawrence Hughes Sanders.

The family will receive friends and family from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with Reverend San Williams of University Presbyterian Church officiating with music by Janis Carol Williams. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive.

Becky's interests included literature, history, composition and classical music, especially bel canto opera. She and John travelled extensively throughout their lives, imbuing that same desire into their children.

Becky loved her family and friends without reserve and deeply touched all their lives. She especially enjoyed hearing every detail of their good times and living vicariously through their experiences while sharing her own, a quality which perpetuates her life through them.
