Carlos Hugo BAZAN-BAROCIO Obituary

Carlos Hugo "Papi" Bazan-Barocio passed away peacefully into our Lord's hands at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Hill Country Senior Care in Dripping Springs, Texas.

Papi is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mireya and his brother Jorge Bazan-Barocio of Monterrey, NL, Mexico. He is survived by his son, Hugo A. Bazan and his wife Loraine of Austin, TX, his daughter, Priscilla Bazan Dunn of La Jolla, CA and his sister Elva Nora Benitez and her husband Luis of Del Mar, CA.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carlos Hugo Bazan and his wife Sherry, Christian Hugo Bazan and John William Dunn-Bazan.

Born in Mexico, DF on April 27, 1922 to Carlos Bazan-Canamar and Elva Bazan-Barocio, his early years were spent in Mexico City where his mother and the mother of his bride to be, Anna Marin were classmates at the National Conservatory of Music and, next door neighbors.

A graduate of the College of Engineers at the National University (UNAM), he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering.

The beginning years as an engineer were spent in Mexico City working at the SCT-Secretariat of Communications & Transportation and later with SEPANAL-Secretariat of National Heritage developing and building highways, hydroelectric dams, government housing, bridges and various federal infrastructure projects throughout Mexico. Along his busy career he also worked in the family business, Ingenieros Bazan, SA with his father and brother plus owning his own Highway Construction Company, until his retirement when he moved to El Cajon, CA. with his wife Mireya and his grandson John William.

Not satisfied with retirement, he started importing custom stone and building custom homes from San Diego to Los Angeles until his wife's death in 1992. He moved to Austin and shortly thereafter, started yet another custom stone business, Renaissance Stone, building numerous custom residences in Austin and Central Texas including many award winning Symphony Homes.

The family wishes to express their deepest love and appreciation to the staff of Hill Country Care in Dripping Springs for their wonderful and compassionate care of our beloved "Papi".

A family & friends celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 5601 Travis Green Ln, Austin, TX from 11 AM to 5 PM. {Free valet parking available}.
