BURGESS, Raymond Alexander

Raymond Alexander Burgess passed away on May 28th, at the age of 55, in his Austin home. For three years he courageously battled pancreatic cancer, never letting it slow him down or prevent him from doing what he loved. He is succeeded by his wife Janet, daughter Susanne, and son Craig.

Ray was born on August 30th 1958 in Dunfermline, Scotland before relocating to Yorkshire, England. He earned an engineering degree and an MBA from Bradford University, and was hired as an Account Manager by TI near London. He had an exceptional career at numerous international companies, including TI, Motorola, and Freescale. Utilizing the experience he gained from these ventures, he became a co-founder and CEO of local startup Solar Power Technologies. Through Ray's vision and leadership, Solar Power Technologies grew from a local to a national scale business, after which he successfully spearheaded their merger with Draker.

Ray was an avid golfer, a talented skier, and a weekend sports car enthusiast. He threw himself into every endeavor and met every challenge and with great enthusiasm and admirable determination. He had an infectious, raucous laugh, a great sense of presence, and was never lost for words. Ray's story telling was always captivating and his positive attitude was infectious. He will be dearly missed.

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 3pm at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
