Jorge Carlos "JC" Cox, Jr. died from a sudden illness while visiting friends in California on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at age 39.
Born in Santiago, Chile, JC moved to Austin as a teenager and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School.
He obtained a BA in Radio-Television-Film from UT Austin in 1999, after surviving a brain tumor diagnosed in 1997. He has worked in sound recording for On Hold Exchange, and collaborated on documentary and educational film projects.
JC devoted many years as a volunteer at Dell's Children's Hospital, working directly with the children, as well as at Austin Child Guidance Center, where he became Volunteer Coordinator.
In May 2013, JC received his Masters Degree in Child and Family Studies from Texas State University. He was to begin a job with Child, Inc., as a child development aide in July, upon returning from California.
Jorge is survived by his grandmother, Marsha K. Donovan, father, Jorge Cox , mother, Laurie Donovan, stepfather, Philip Drake, eleven siblings and in-laws; six beloved nieces and nephews, and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins in the US and Chile.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Abiding Love Lutheran Church located at 7210 Brush Country Road.
