Stella Marie Powell of Austin, Texas, died June 21, 2014, at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. Stella was born in Austin December 14, 1960, to Alice Shelton Powell and the late Raymond J. Powell Jr.
Stella was a loving, caring and generous daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her playful gentle spirit endeared her to all who knew her. Stella was a star who lived up to her name.
Stella began her professional life in Dallas as national accounts manager for a large telecommunications company. After a successful career in that field she returned to Austin and founded her own company as business development consultant with national and international companies.
Stella had deep appreciation for historic aspects of Austin, having been born and raised in the heart of central Austin. She was an active member of the Austin neighborhood associations in areas where she resided. She was also very much a dog person, as the devoted mistress to several dogs at a time throughout her life and also as an active participant in canine rescue groups.
Survivors include partner Sonemaly Phrasavath, mother Alice Shelton Powell, sister AlRae Powell Huseman, brothers James Powell and Bryan Powell, brother-in-law Van Huseman, nephew Shandy Powell-Smith, niece Heidi Rae Huseman, aunts Marie Lee and Edna Shelton, along with numerous cousins.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Austin Pets Alive or Family Elder Care.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 209 West 27th Street, Austin, Texas, Rev. Anne Hoey officiating.
