THOMPSON, Jane Betts

Jane Betts Thompson, 98, of Austin, passed away at Cedar Park on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. She was born on July 4, 1916, in San Benito, Texas.

Jane received a Bachelor's Degree with a major in English from the University of Texas at Austin. She also attended Brownsville Junior College. She taught a few years in various schools including one in Houston. Jane had several passions including traveling, reading, volunteering, and taking care of her animals especially her cats.

She was very active in volunteering for St. David's Episcopal Church and helped at KLRU TV and at the Austin Visitors Center. She had a strong faith and was active at St. David's for many years. She enjoyed meeting people and was always interested in the lives of her children and grandchildren and helped whenever it was possible.

Jane was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Kyleen McCann of Austin; four sons, Hunter Thompson and his wife, Carol (Kinston, Washington); Thomas Thompson (Wimberley), Philip Thompson and his wife, Marie (Summit, Arkansas), and David Thompson (Florence, Oregon); ten grandchildren, Laile Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Valerie Thompson, Kathryn Stevens, Christina McCann, Tom Thompson, Cassie LeGarde, Danny Thompson, David E. Thompson, and Taylor Thompson; 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Laile Thompson and her parents, Thomas and Myrul Betts.

Funeral services to celebrate Jane's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Austin Humane Society or KLRU TV.
