David Loren THOMPSON Obituary
THOMPSON, David Loren

David Loren Thompson, died peacefully August 21, 2014 at the age of 70 from stomach cancer and diabetes. A lifelong resident of Williamson County, his roots run to the Republic of Texas as a descendant of Martin and Sarah Wells who settled in Stephen F. Austin's "Little Colony" in Bastrop. David was a thirty-five year member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas (SRT), Moses Austin Chapter, the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), and the Former Texas Ranger Association.

He was preceded in death by his father John F. (Swede) Thompson, Jr. He is survived by his mother Frances Mason Thompson, his wife of almost 48 years, Karen Dannelly Thompson, daughter Katherine (Kathy) Thompson Howell and her husband Jonathan B. Howell, son David Mason Thompson and his wife Darla Simpson Thompson, grandson Cassidy Robert Thompson, all of Leander, and great-granddaughter Melanie Hanson of Michigan. His beloved dog "Ben" will miss him.

Following graduation from Leander High School in 1962, David joined Austin Pipefitters and Plumbers Local 286, a journeyman who was proud to receive a 50 Year membership pin and watch in 2013. To say David was an avid hunter and fisherman is an understatement and he greatly enjoyed time at the family ranch near Carrizo Springs, Texas.

A celebration of his life will be held Monday, August 25, 2014, at 10:00 am with viewing starting at 9;00 am at Leander Presbyterian Church, 101 N. West Street, Leander, Texas, under the direction of Beck Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bagdad Cemetery. After the graveside service, all are welcome to return to the church's Fellowship Hall for refreshments and remembrances. The family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Blevins and Dr. Jack Moncrief of Austin for their years of care, and the entire staff of Fresenius Cedar Park Dialysis for four years of kind treatment.

Memorials may be made to Leander Presbyterian Church, PO Box 1103, Leander, TX 78646 or Martin Wells Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas,(chapter named in honor of David's ancestor). Make checks payable to Martin Wells DRT, and mail c/o Dusky Waters, P.O. Box 45, Georgetown, Texas, 78627.
