Obituary Condolences

Robert C. Miller, Jr. Robert C. Miller, Jr., Lieutenant Colonel, US Army (Retired) of 2300 Vassal Dr., Austin, TX 78748, passed away on November 16, 2008. Bob was born May 7, 1921 in McCamey, TX to Robert C. Miller, Sr. and Edna Mabel Bouchette Miller. In l935 the family moved to Iraan, TX where Bob spent his school years. At the age of 16 he earned his Eagle Scout Badge and Order of the Arrow. He was also active in the 4H Club raising lambs and in his senior year in high school was inducted into the National Honor Society. Bob entered Texas A&M and graduated with the Class of l953. He entered the Army with the rank of 2nd Lt. and was stationed at White Sands Proving Ground, NM, where he met and married his wife Jane Griffee. They traveled extensively as his military career took them to several states including Alaska and overseas to Turkey. He also served in Korea and Viet Nam. During his military career he was awarded the Bronze Star for service in Viet Nam, the Meritorious Service Medal for service at Fort Riley, KS., the Joint Service Commendation Medal for service in Turkey, and the Army Commendation Medal for service at Fort Gordon, GA. After retiring at Ft. Riley, KS in l974 Bob and Jane moved to Austin, TX. He worked for the IRS for 16 years retiring in l993. He also worked a year in Saudi Arabia. Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years; sons, David C. Miller of Austin, TX, James R. Miller of Cheyenne, WY; and daughter, Bonnie K. Teague and her husband Philip of Austin, TX; grandchildren, David B. Miller and his wife Hana of Santa Barbara, CA, Chris C. Miller and his wife Jennifer of Huntersville, NC, and their mother, Nicole Anter; Courtney K. Dunham and her husband Jacob, of Warsaw, IN, Whitney M. Rowell and her husband Lewis, of Austin TX and Lindsay M. Holman and her husband James of Clarksville, TN. Bob is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Grayden and Sophia Dunham; and sister, June O'Bannon of Lubbock. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 21 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
