James Eachus Obituary

James Eachus James Eachus, who died on September 30, 2009, will be missed, but not forgotten. He has left a four-legged legacy that will continue to prosper long after his two legged kin, including his wife, Maureen, his two sisters, Marilyn and Cindy, and his brother Chris, have passed on themselves. Jim's beloved Border Collies, many of whom he took great pride in flying to their new homes himself, are spread across the globe. It all began in Manor, Texas in the year 1996 with Sheba (better known as the Mother-of-all-dogs) who has since retired and is providing comfort to Jim's grieving family in Burnet, Texas. Never one to do something in a small way, Jim then had his sister, Marilyn and her husband, Mike, import studs Chaz and Flyer from England. From these three was born an empire of pure-bred pride and joy that came to be known as Buchanan Border Collies. It is true that Jim's passing has caused the kennel to be disbanded, but that does not mean that his dream is gone. Thanks to the large generosity of the people who live in that little state known as Texas, Jim's progeny will not only survive, but thrive! JB Border Collies in Spring Branch, Texas has taken Flyer, who will continue to work his magic with the Ladies! Chaz has joined a few dames of his own, on a huge ranch he can now call his domain. As for all the little black/red and white and tri-colored "women" in Burnet, whom the "men" leave behind, don't you worry about them; they, too, have been adopted by wonderful and generous families who will love them just as their master would have wanted. And for that man, Uncle Jim, as he was known to many nieces and nephews, don't you worry about him, either. He left this world the way he would have wanted: Flying high and living big-always and forever! At the request of Jim and his family there will be private funeral services at a later date. Donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Border Collie Rescue 16051 E FM 1097, Willis, Texas 77378-4077. Arrangements entrusted to the Putnam Funeral Home and Crematory 145 Texas Avenue, Kingsland, Texas 78639. An online guest register may be signed at www.putnamfunerals.com.

Hi, first my condolences to Maureen and the whole family. I just happened across this sad news. I rented the house on the ranch from about 1985 to 1990. Jim and Maureen and Ike and Tina were almost family. I built the large deck on the back of the house. I hope its still standing! What a great time in my life those years were. Riding around the ranch with Jim in the old light blue four wheel drive at break neck speeds drinking a "Generic Beer"!
The best of times. I hope this finds Maureen and family healthy and happy. Im retired from the Post Office and living in Austin. Would love to cross paths some day and tell old stories!

Dear Maureen and Family,
My husband and I regarded Jim as a friend who gave us two loves - our two Buchanan Border collies - Gracie (5 years ago) and Sam (formerly Dakota and Simon - September 27). We visited with Jim again this summer, shortly after our wonderful border boy, Max, died. We knew that Jim could help us find another dog to soothe our hearts. Jim called us right after Kia and Flyer's pups were born in August. We visited with Jim and our new puppy several times, from the time Simon (Sam) was 4 days old until we picked him up September 26th. Jim always seemed happy to see us and took time to make us feel welcome, even though we probably visited way too many times! He was a kind man with a big heart. I will never forget spending time with him that last day we saw him. His love for his puppies was so evident. What a wonderful soul!
Our thoughts, prayers, and puppy paws are with you and your family. I just know that Jim is flying high with one of his 4-legged buddies with him!

Dear Maureen and Family,
As I write, Wyatt, aka Flyer's Son, our 8 1/2 week old amazing bundle of joy, naps beside me. I picked him up on September 27th and spent over an hour enjoying Jim's company as he prepared Wyatt for our trip back to Keller. From the first time my son Sam and I came to the kennel to choose a puppy, the subsequent phone calls to check on him and with the e-mail he sent my son Greg, the passion Jim had for his dogs was apparant. His knowledge and pure love of his animals convinced us that we wanted to make one of his border collies part of our family. After trying repeatedly to call Jim to brag on Wyatt, I feared something was wrong and finally learned the awful news of the tragedy. My deepest, profound sorrow and my prayers go out to you. I will always be greatful to have known Jim, even if it was for a brief time.
Sincerely,
Donna, Sam, Greg and Wyatt

Barry and I were sorry to hear the news. We purchased our border collie "Nikko" from him last year. Jim made such a impression on us with his knowledge, his personality and his outstanding service. Our prayers go out to all of Jims Family and friends!

Hello Maureen,

Our sincerest condolences regarding the death of Jim. I am confident that you will pick up the pieces and move on in a productive and satifying manner,
I remember when Jim offered me pick of the liter with one of Sheba's first liters. He called me two days after they were born and told me I needed to pick my dog right now becuse the rest of the buyers wanted to make their selection. I knew nothing about picking dogs so when I saw the liter and the only one that moved was Casey I figured that was a good sign. Casey is 9 years of age and still doing well. He is my constant copanion and very understanding. We live at Lake Tahoe, CA and lots of wild animals around. The geese are especially intrusive and the first time I sent him out to chase the geese off the yard he started to herd them back. We have since got that instint reversed. We get out twice a year in our motor home. Two years ago we heard about herding dog competion in Meeker, CO. Since we were only 100 miles from there we went down to view the event. We were told only competition dogs were allowed but Casey wanted to see it. We smuggled him in and he enjoyed it tremendously. He got so excited that we were discovered and escourted out by noon. That's OK we had a interesting time and it was time to move on down the road anyway. They just do not understand that Casey should not be treated like a dog.I will send one of the latest pictures of Casey (and my wife too) via regular email. He is so understanding and we have father and son chats every once in awhile. Let us know where you will be living and we'll stop by next spring on our RV trip as we go or return from the east coast.

Maureen, Just wanted you to know the girls and I were thinking about you. Jim was indeed a character and one that will not be forgotten. I have missed having him in Elgin to banter with. We are just very saddened for your loss. Cynthia Cavanaugh, Kitten and Josie.
