Samuel D. Williams Samuel D. Williams, 84, Hideaway, Texas. Sam went to meet his Lord and maker on the 23rd day of May 2010 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Zephyr, TX on September 25, 1925. Raised in west Texas; the Brownwood and Comanche area, he entered the US Army after his 18th birthday. During World War II he fought in France and Germany. He was a member of Company L, 399th Infantry Regiment of the 100th Division. In the Alsace-Lorraine region of France, he earned the Bronze Star during the fierce battle for the town of Bitche, France, earning him and his fellow soldiers the nickname of "Sons of Bitche". During the occupation of Germany he met his future wife Margot and her daughter Gerlinde. He brought them both to Texas and married Margot on December 18, 1947 in Glen Rose, TX. He remained in military service, transferring to the newly established United States Air Force serving further in Germany, Turkey, and Alaska retiring from the Air Force in 1964. After retirement, he worked as an overseas contractor in Turkey during the late 1960s and late 1970s. He then retired and lived in Spokane, WA until moving back to Austin, TX in 1990. With his health declining he moved in with his son in Hideaway, TX around Christmas of 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margot; his daughter, Gerlinde "Linda Allison"; his brothers, Truman, Austin, Bob, Carroll, and Finis; and his sister, Loreta Brinegar. He is survived by his sons, Warner D. Williams and wife Pam of Savannah, GA, Samuel V. Williams and wife Ginny of Hideaway, TX; his sister, Nell Briener; six grandchildren, David Allison and wife Anita of Hutto, TX, Lisa Allison and husband Ben Mills of Pflugerville, TX, Alison Barclay of Pflugerville, TX, Brad Williams and wife Lisa of Keller, TX, Konrad Williams of Savannah, GA, Megan and husband David Stephens of Fort Lewis, WA; and eight great-grandchildren: Brett and Krista Allison, Cayle and Andon Barclay, Troy Stephens, Shelby, Reese and Kendall Williams; and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, May 27, 2010 followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. at Harrell Funeral Home in south Austin with a 2:00 p.m. military burial at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, TX 75701.
